Absolutely phenomenal park. There are a couple small fenced areas, and then the larger dog area you enter from the parking lot is fully fenced (trust me, my husky mix and I checked). There's also a separate fenced off swimming hole area (frozen over, now).
For any escape-prone or wanderer dogs be aware that I saw two Vizslas easily jump the fence by the watering hole, so it's definitely possible, and the gates headed to the watering hole have a bit of a gap under them where a small or very determined dog could sneak underneath. All in all a superb park and we will absolutely be back!
Lots of great open space for dogs to run. It has a trail that extended through the dog space and around the woods, creating about a 3 mile loop total. There were some smaller fenced in areas, but most people were roaming freely with their dogs off leash. There is a small lake with two access points for the dogs to play in, the water looked clean. Fantastic dog space, but a little pricey for a day visit. Definitely worth looking into an annual pass if you live close.
We recently took our two pups here and we absolutely loved it. Be aware you do have to have a yearly pass for the county dog parks or pay a daily fee which you can do on your phone. We are definitely planning to get a year-long pass for 2021 since the passes are for the calendar year. Everyone we met was friendly and the area was spacious and wide open. The water access is gated so you can choose to let your dogs go there or not. Overall, this is a great place to bring your dogs to burn off some extra energy.
GREAT dog park! Fenced water area if you don’t want your dog getting wet, plenty of trails through the prairie grasses and the woods, awesome park.
Our dogs loved being off leash on all that land. There's water there for them to swim in as well. Most of the dogs there were easygoing and wanted to play with other dogs. If you don't have an annual permit, you can go online and purchase a daily permit.
First time visiting, won't be the last. Plenty of space for the pup to run around safely. Can get muddy, but not a problem!
This is one of my favorite places on earth. It's like being in a forest preserve only it's all fenced in so you can walk your dog without a leash. My current and previous dogs have/had so much fun there.
Unfortunately they raised the prices a while back, a day pass for a non-resident of lake county costs $30.25 (which includes a 25 cent "convenience" fee that you can't possibly get out of paying... I just wish they would stop calling it a convenience fee when there isn't a less convenient way where they don't charge the fee). So it's a once, maybe twice a year kind of thing for me.
So happy to have found this place! My dog adores coming here and running off-leash, and it's a lovely walk in nature for both of us. There is a large open field, many trails, and a lake that is fenced off should you not want your dog to swim. (Once in the lake area escape is possible, as shown in the photo.)
It can be very muddy depending on weather, so waterproof shoes are good. My guy can get filthy so I bring shampoo and rinse him off at the water pump/hose near the entrance during warmer months.
